My Life with Coeliac Disease

Welcome Back !👋👋

First of all , I want to say hello to all my readers who have been waiting for a new blog post for a while.  An today is the day I bring you new content after hitting a writing block for a while and not really knowing what to write about.  So, I am back and I'm hoping to get into a blogging schedule where I will have a couple of posts up a week.

So , as the title states this blog post is going to be about me and my life with the Coeliac Disease.

You might be reading this thinking what is Coeliac Disease , well let me answer that for you, in this blog post !

I was diagnosed with Coeliac disease when I was in hospital for something very serious. I was sent for a biopsy. It took a while to get these results back. But once I had them back once I was home from the hospital and after a few months. I was made aware I had Coeliac disease.

So since being diagnosed over 3 years ago , I have had to switch up my eating habits. To eating foods which contain the following cereals.  I have got good at making various different dishes that I know I can eat without the fear of being glutened.  So with the foods I eat , I am now careful to make sure that they are safe for me to eat. This also includes takeaway food and eating out at restaurants for special occasions.

What is Coeliac Disease ?

Coeliac Disease is an auto immune condition It is a very common digestive condition. Coeliac disease is where the small intestine  starts go inflamed and it stops being able to absorb the nutrients from food.

Coeliac disease can come with a range of symptoms which are inclusive of diarrhoea, bloating and abdominal pain.
Coeliac disease is caused by a reaction to gluten , which is a dietary protein which can be found in three types of cereals . These are barley, rye and wheat.

Gluten is found in any food that contains the above cereals. this is inclusive of pasts , cakes , bread , sauces , breakfast cereals etc. Also , most beers are made from barley.

Symptoms of Coeliac Disease

The consumption of food containing gluten can trigger many of the following gut related symptoms .
Which are inclusive of the following:

Abdominal pain
Indigestion
Bloating

Also coeliac disease can cause more general symptoms, these are inclusive of the following:

Fatigue
an itchy rash
fertility problems
nerve damage
unexpected weight loss

Causes of Coeliac Disease

Coeliac disease is a condition that it falls in to the category of an autoimmune one. This is the process where the immune system , the human body's natural defence mechanism against infection , attacks it's healthy tissue mistakenly.

The immune system mistakes various different substances found with in the gluten of many foods as a threat to the body and it attacks them.  This damages the surface of the small intestines, which then disrupts the human body's ability to absorb the nutrients from the food.  It is not clear  what cause the body's immune system to do this. But it is a mix of a combination of genetics and the environment that appear to play a detrimental part,.

Coeliac disease is not an allergy or an intolerance of gluten.

At current moment their is no  cure for coeliac disease. Switching to a gluten-free lifestyle will help to control the symptoms. It will also help to prevent and consequences of the condition which can be long term.  Even if symptoms are not existent or are of the mild nature , changing you're eating habits is still recommended. As if you continue to consume gluten it can lead to serious complications. It is imperative that you make sure you're gluten free lifestyle is as healthy and balanced as possible.  Over the past few years their has been an influx of gluten free products that are readily available in many stores and also on prescription.

"Coeliac disease is a very common autoimmune condition that affects approximately 1 in ever 100 people in the UK"

Their is a lot of readily available information on Coeliac disease, I hope by reading this short post, you have gained some knowledge into Coeliac Disease and the symptoms it has .

If you enjoyed reading this post please leave a comment , don;t forget to share this with anyone who you think could benefit from reading this. Also if you  have any questions , feel free to leave them in the comments box and I will answer them in a You Tube video.

Many Thanks
